MrWiFi / Parental Controls
Parental controls for the home network
Set how much internet time each child gets, when it cuts off at night, and which apps and categories work when. It all runs on the router, so it covers every device on the network — WiFi or wired, with no way to bypass it — and nothing to install on each one. You manage the lot from a free app, from anywhere.
How it works
Set it once, on the router
The rules live on the router, not an app on every device — so we set it up once and you run it from the free app.
- Covers every device — WiFi or wired, no bypass
- Phones, tablets, computers, TVs, Xbox, PlayStation
- Rules applied per device, each one on its own
- Adults’ devices left wide open
- Nothing to install or update on each device
- Run day-to-day from the free app, from anywhere
The app
A free app, wherever you are
The management app is free — no subscription, no per-device fee. Sign in from your phone anywhere you have signal and change a rule, grant bonus time or block a device on the spot, whether you’re at work, away for the weekend or just in the next room. One login covers the whole household, and it’s the same app we use to set things up with you.
- Free — no subscription, no per-device fee
- Works from anywhere, on mobile data or any WiFi
- Change rules, add time or block a device in seconds
- One login for the whole household
Internet time
Time limits and cut-off times
Each device gets a daily internet allowance — say two hours on a school day, more on the weekend — and a restricted-hours window when the connection stops and comes back in the morning, set separately for school nights and the weekend. When time’s earned you can add 15 minutes, 30 minutes, an hour or two from the free app wherever you are, and block a device on the spot when you need the room’s attention. Adults’ devices are left out of it.
- Daily internet-time allowance per device
- Restricted hours — off at night, back in the morning
- Separate school-night and weekend schedules
- Add 15 min / 30 min / 1 h / 2 h of bonus time from the free app
- Block a device on the spot, from anywhere
- Adults’ devices unaffected
App & category control
Block apps and whole categories
The router recognises apps by category — Gaming, Social, Entertainment, Study, Lifestyle, Work and VoIP — and you block a whole category or a recognised app within it, per device, either outright or only during restricted hours. Games off on school nights and back Saturday morning, social off during homework — flip any of it on or off from the free app while you’re out. The app list is the router’s built-in one; you can’t add an app it doesn’t already know, but you can always add its website to your own blocklist.
Social
TikTok, Instagram, Snapchat, Facebook, X, Reddit and the other recognised social apps.
Entertainment
YouTube, Netflix, Twitch, Disney+ and other streaming and entertainment services.
Gaming
Roblox, Fortnite, Minecraft, Steam, Xbox Live, PlayStation Network and more.
VoIP & messaging
WhatsApp, Messenger, Discord and other calling and messaging apps.
- Block a whole category, or a recognised app within it
- Outright, or only inside restricted hours
- Different categories blocked per device
- Your own website blocklist for anything the app list misses
Content
Filter what gets through
Unsafe website categories are blocked across the whole network — adult content, gambling, phishing and hacking sites — and on top of that you keep your own blocklist of specific websites. Rules are set per device, so a younger child’s tablet can sit tighter than a teenager’s laptop.
- Adult, gambling, phishing & hacking categories blocked network-wide
- Your own blocklist of specific websites
- Set per device — tighter for the younger ones
- Applies to every device, WiFi or wired — browser or app
Straight up
What it can and can’t do
Everything reaching the internet from home goes through the router, so every device is covered whether it’s on WiFi or plugged in by cable — there’s no bypassing it by swapping to ethernet. What it can’t see is a phone on mobile data: that’s outside the home network, and no home filter reaches a 4G connection. App blocking also depends on the router recognising the traffic, so a brand-new or renamed app might slip through until its signatures update, and a VPN can tunnel around the rules. We block known VPN and proxy categories, lock the router down, and walk you through the mobile side (carrier controls and on-device screen time) so you know exactly where the edges are. The management app stays free, and you reach it from anywhere.
- Every device on the home network — WiFi or wired, no bypass
- App list is the router’s — block the website for anything it misses
- Known VPN & proxy categories blocked
- Mobile data sits outside it — we explain the options
- Free management app, reachable from anywhere
